Growth agenda:Minister for Information and Public Relations, Tourism and Cinematography, J Geetha Reddy going round the new building of Sri Sai Aditya Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research after inaugurating it at Surampalem in East Godavari district on Sunday.
Kakinada: Minister for Information and Public Relations, Tourism and Cinematography J Geetha Reddy on Sunday said Andhra Pradesh has the distinction of being the ‘bulk drug capital' of India and it was poised for higher growth in the sector. Nearly one third of the country's bulk drug production comes from the State. The demand for trained manpower in the pharmaceutical sector was therefore bound to grow, she asserted.
Inaugurating the new building of Sri Sai Aditya Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research at Surampalem here on Sunday, Ms. Geetha Reddy said the Government has given priority to higher education and it took steps for improving the infrastructure and augmenting the capabilities of teachers.
The Right to Education Act enacted by Parliament recently, would help in increasing the literacy rate. More importantly, children across the social spectrum would be able to study in schools. Children's education was most crucial for all round and equitable development of the country, the Minister added.
Social Welfare Minister Pilli Subhaschandra Bose said the State Government was proud of reimbursing fee of poor students on a scale which no other State could do till now.
A sum of nearly Rs 2,900 crore was earmarked for that in the last six years and Rs 2,200 crore was already released.
From this the importance given to education of poor students could be understood.
Later, Ministers Geetha Reddy and Bose distributed post-graduate GATE fellowships to M.Pharm students and congratulated them on their accomplishment.
Aditya educational institutions chairman and Anaparthy MLA N Sesha Reddy, Aditya group vice-chairman N Satish Reddy, secretary Deepak Reddy and principals Ravishankar and Ramesh were present.
