Andhra JAC favours bifurcation of State

VIJAYAWADA: Leaders of the Andhra Joint Action Committee (JAC) have said ‘no' to the proposed regional councils and sought bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh as they believe it is the only permanent solution to the Telangana issue. In a statement here on Friday, president of the Andhra JAC Sunkara Krishna Murthy demanded that the government initiate immediate steps for bifurcation of the State and carve out separate Andhra with Vijayawada as capital. Leaders of Jai Andhra Movement plan to meet in Vijayawada on June 25 to chalk out their future course of action.
Pointing to the recent visit of the delegation of Telangana Ministers, MPs, MLAs, and MLCs to Delhi to put pressure on the Central government and the Congress high command for creating separate Telangana, he said the government must honour its December 9 declaration failing which the Telangana leaders would find it difficult to face the masses in their region.
He said though Core Committee members Pranab Mukherjee, P. Chidambaram, Ahmed Patel, A.K. Antony, and Jaipal Reddy gave an impression that they were in favour of their demand, the government was actually contemplating constitution of Regional Development Boards for the three regions of Andhra Pradesh on the lines of the Darjeeling Hill Development Board in West Bengal constituted after Mamata Banerjee became Chief Minister of that State.
