KCR demands all-party meeting on Metro Rail

K. Chandrasekhar Rao
HYDERABAD: TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Friday demanded that Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy convene an all-party meeting to discuss in detail the Metro Rail project.
Addressing a public meeting organised by Sultan Bazaar ‘Parirakshana Samithi' here, Mr. Rao said the government should make public all the documents pertaining to the project at the meeting as several objections were raised with regard to the heritage and other important structures being affected by the project.
“If the Chief Minister fails to convene the meeting, then he and his Cabinet will face wrath of the people. We will not allow them to tour the city,” he warned.
Describing Metro Rail project as a “real-estate business”, the TRS chief said over 260 acres prime land in the capital would be handed over to L&T for development. He charged Andhra businessmen of conspiring to defame the culture and heritage of the 400-year-old city.
State Assembly, Badichowdi, Sultan Bazaar, M.J. Market, Putlibowli, Pathergati etc., are symbols of the city. “We will not tolerate if the government tries to deface these places,” he said. He said that metro projects were executed in Bangalore and Delhi without affecting heritage structures.
He criticised the government for ignoring the Multi-Modal Transit System (MMTS) facility which is enjoying tremendous passengers' patronage and wondered why funds were not being allotted for taking up phase two.
