Consensus on Telangana unlikely: Lagadapati

VIJAYAWADA: Consensus on carving out Telangana seems unlikely among the representatives of political parties at the all-party meeting to be called by the Union Government very soon, which is the only democratic solution, according to Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal.
Asked about the party's likely stand on Telangana at the all-party meeting, he said representatives from both regions would give diametrically opposite views, he said at a press conference here on Sunday. “The original view of the Congress is resolving the issue through Second SRC,” he said. The MP said the Union Government resorting to a solution based on the recommendations of the Srikrishna Committee would put to rest the crisis.
Accepting TRS founder K. Chandrasekhara Rao's challenge to leave the State, or even country temporarily, Mr. Rajagopal said if Mr. Rao feels he can manage to achieve Telangana State in his absence, he was ready for that. Terming the peaceful ‘Vanta-Vaarpu' programme as one that would feed millions of poor people, he hoped that the TRS would conduct such programmes by contributing from their pockets. The MP alleged that TRS chief had brought in all his relatives and was running the party as a monopoly business and collecting money in the name of Telangana agitation. “As a person from Andhra I have provided jobs to 5,000 people and our Chief Executive Officer is from Telangana, but can Mr. Rao provide 1 crore jobs he has been promising people (one per household),” Mr. Rajagopal said. Due to the Telangana agitation students from the region were flocking to colleges in Andhra , which showed how much support they enjoyed from the people, he said.
