HYDERABAD: For once, the kitchenware was taken out of four walls and brought to use on roads at several places in the State capital on Sunday.
Telangana supporters brought utensils and all sorts of provisions from their houses to cook food for themselves and also others to showcase their plight over the delay in formation of the State. It was community lunch amidst `Jai Telangana' slogans thereafter at over 50 spots on roads. The menu comprised a range of dishes peculiar to Telangana like the `pachi pulusu'. But, it was mostly a simple meal of rice and cereals cooked hurriedly in the humdrum.
There were also leaders haranguing to give sound bytes to media personnel over injustice to the region in the integrated State. At some places, song and dance in Telangana was also there. In fact, one of the troupes was also involved in the only skirmish with police through out the day. Otherwise, the programme was totally peaceful though the police made elaborate security arrangements as a precautionary measure.
The cultural artistes who were mobilised by Telangana Praja Front sat down to lunch after their show at Narayanguda when the police asked them to clear immediately. It resulted in an argument which led to `police go back' slogans and later sit-in on the road by participants.
At Hi-Tech city, the crowd threw flowers on the convoy of Deputy Chief Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha as it passed by. One of the biggest crowds to participate in the programme was seen here as Information Technology professionals sporting white tea-shirts also took part. TRS MP Vijayashanti who played ‘Batukamma' with other women and party MLA T. Harish Rao were present.
Surprisingly, Congress MLA P. Vishnu Vardhan Reddy and film actor Suman also showed up here. Another surprise was the appearance of suspended Telugu Desam leaders Nagam Janardhan Reddy and Bode Janardhan at the camp near Telangana martyrs memorial opposite Assembly. Senior BJP leaders, Bandaru Dattatreya and Ch. Vidyasagara Rao too attended camps organised by the party.
TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao extended a helping hand to cooking near the cancer hospital at Banjara Hills. He was served lunch by his wife.
The TRS chief appealed to Congress leaders to give up their “lobbying” for Statehood in New Delhi as it was a mere waste. He said he would meet them in a day or two in a bid to convince them to resign and join the movement. He would ensure their victory when they contested polls again.
The Telangana joint action committee chairman M. Kodandaram said the panel would continue to mobilise crowds on roads in the city as long as an announcement on State was not made.
