CPI(M) launches ‘porata yatra' against mining

VISAKHAPATNAM: All the illegal mining licences sanctioned in the State to benami Girijans must be cancelled immediately, demanded CPI (M) Central committee member P. Madhu while inaugurating the party's “Porata Yatra” against illegal mining, at Nimmalapadu in Anantagiri mandal in Visakha Agency on Friday.
He accused the Government of sanctioning licences to benami Girijans for exploiting the rich mineral resources and the Congress and Telugu Desam leaders were hand in glove in this respect.
As many as 38 persons belonging to the Congress and TDP had applied for license for mining in 14 Gram Panchayats in Anantagiri mandal. He ridiculed the Government's stand that mining would improve the lot of Girijans when in reality it would destroy their life and culture.
District secretary of CPI (M) Ch. Narasinga Rao criticised the Congress and TDP leaders for coming together to destroy the life of Girijans. A Congress leader Setti Gangadhara Swamy was resorting to illegal mining, he alleged. Son of Araku MLA Siveri Soma applied for mining license and former MLA K. Ravibabu had taken up mining in Jeelugedda and Denkapuram villages, Mr. Narasinga Rao said.
Mr. Madhu, Mr. Narasinga Rao, ZPTC of Araku Surendra, district leader of AIDWA Prabhavathi and others visited the mining area at Nimmalapadu.
