Kodad upgraded to municipality

HYDERABAD: The State government on Thursday decided to upgrade Kodad in Nalgonda district into a municipality, thus fulfilling a long-cherished ream of the people in this town.
With this, the total number of municipalities in the State will go up to 109.
At the same time, 12 gram panchayats will be upgraded into nagara panchayats, a step towards making them municipalities in future, if necessary.
The panchayats are -- Gollaprolu, Ravulapalem, Mummadivaram (East Godavari district), S. Kota (Vizianagaram), Banaganapalli, Gudur (Kurnool), Alluru (Nellore), Ieeza (Mahabubnagar), and Jammikunta, Vemulawada, Peddapalli and Huzurabad (Karimnagar).
There are already seven nagara panchayats in the State which.
Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy gave his approval to upgrading the gram panchayats after a meeting with officials on Thursday.
